What We Believe...
East L.A. Light & Life Christian
School is sponsored by the Free Methodist Church. The School seeks, in a fair
way, to serve children from all religious and cultural backgrounds. We teach
the Bible according to traditional evangelical interpretations. Following is a
summary of our most basic interpretation of what the Bible declares:
There is one God eternally
existing in three persons: the Father, Jesus Christ the Son, and the Holy
Spirit.
The Bible is God's inspired,
written word which bears witness to Jesus Christ, the Living Word. It is
truthful and authoritative in all that it affirms. In it is found all truth
necessary for eternal salvation and for seeking peace with God and with people.
(2 Timothy 3:16)
God entered the world as a human
being, through Jesus Christ, when He was born to the Virgin Mary. Jesus lived a
sinless life of loving servanthood, performed miracles, and by His sacrifice on
the cross, He paid for the sins of the whole world. On the third day, He rose
from. the grave in a glorified body and then ascended into heaven where He now
pleads for us before the throne of God until He returns again to rule in power
and justice. (Philippians 2:5 - 11)
We believe that God is present
today throughout the world in the person of the Holy Spirit, who lives
especially in the community of God's people, known as the Church. The Holy
Spirit honors Christ, who, in turn, honors the Father. The Holy Spirit makes
Jesus real. He brings new life and power into each person who turns away from
sin and who seeks to follow Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit enables those who
trust and follow Jesus to find peace with God and then to become peace-makers
among their fellow human beings. (Acts 2:17 - 18) (1 Peter 2: 9 - 12)
Human beings were created to
reflect the glory of God and to honor Him, but because of sin and rebellion,
people became alienated from God. The only means of restoring peace and
fellowship with God is by relying upon Jesus Christ alone to forgive one's sin,
and to bring salvation. Salvation is a gift, which is also a process of
deliverance from all the effects of sin, beginning now by faith in Jesus Christ,
but finding complete fulfillment in eternity. (2 Corinthians 5:14 - 21)
At death each person meets the
Creator, who is also Judge of the whole universe. God's judgment is perfectly
just. All who trust in Jesus as Savior and Lord receive eternal life. Those
who reject Jesus Christ shall be condemned to eternal death, which is separation
from God. (John 3:16 & 36)
