Special Friends & Scholarship Program

What would you pay for a high quality education in a loving, Christ-centered environment?

East Los Angeles Light & Life Christian School (ELA L&L) is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization located in the heart of Los Angeles, serving Boyle Heights and surrounding areas since 1949. Our mission is to provide a high quality education and to nurture students to accept and honor Jesus Christ. With the partnership of those interested in this ministry, we can educate and nurture many more young people for Jesus Christ! Becoming a part of our Special Friends/Scholarship Program is one way in which YOU can make a difference in the life of a child.

Here is some basic information about these programs:

Special Friends Commit to regular communication & relationship development with an assigned Light and Life Student.

Regularly pray for assigned student.

Contribute monthly to East Los Angeles Light & Life Christian School's Scholarship Fund (optional - see bottom of page).

Remember special holidays and birthdays in one or more of the following ways:

Cards Small gifts even items you can fit inside an envelope. Students love to receive pictures of you and your family. One sponsor sent a pack of gum and a balloon inside the child's birthday card. Another very easy gift is a gift certificate for a toy store, music/video store, McDonalds, Baskin Robbins, etc. Many fun, creative, thoughtful gifts are easily mailed inside a standard envelope.

    Scholarship Fund

While we have increased tuition (by 10% this year) we continue to provide scholarships for many students whose families are unable to pay the full tuition amount.  You might wonder how students are awarded scholarship monies. East Los Angeles Light & Life Christian School has specific Scholarship Criteria in place, which includes financial information provided to the school by the parent. As Scholarships are awarded parents are required to meet with the principal to cover all Scholarship Criteria.

Students who receive any form of Scholarship from East Los Angeles Light & Life Christian School must maintain the following:

Maintain a GPA of 2.75 or higher

Receive a Conduct grade of “Satisfactory” or higher

Maintain a good attendance record

No more than 60 minutes of unexcused tardiness

No more than three (3) unexcused absences

No pattern of excessive excused absences

 *We realize not everyone can give regularly to East Los Angeles Light & Life Christian School's Scholarship Fund. Some may have the time to invest in building a spiritual friendship with one or more of our students. On the other hand we realize there are some who, for a variety of reasons, cannot commit to that type of mentor-relationship, yet are able to support a Scholarship Fund. In doing so many students who might not otherwise have the opportunity, are able to receive a quality, Christian education. We want anyone who has a genuine interest in this unique ministry to find the perfect “fit” for their time, talents and gifts!
